NEW YORK, March 03, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — According to a new report on the global silicone market by IndexBox, approx. 695K tonnes of silicones in primary forms were imported into the EU, an increase of 22% in 2021/2020. In value, purchases increased from $2.8 billion to $3.7 billion.
Belgium (187K tons), followed by the Netherlands (104K tons), Germany (87K tons), Italy (75K tons), France (47K tons) and Spain (45K tons) were the largest importers of silicones, together generating 78% of the total volume. The following importers – Poland (21,000 tons), Ireland (20,000 tons), Austria (19,000 tons), Estonia (18,000 tons) and
Czech Republic (15,000 tonnes) – together they accounted for 14% of total imports.
In terms of value, the largest EU silicone import markets were Belgium ($669 million), the Netherlands ($651 million) and Germany ($537 million), with a combined share of 50% of total imports. These countries were followed by Italy, France, Spain, Poland, Austria, the Czech Republic, Ireland and Estonia, which accounted for an additional 35%.
Silicone prices in the EU
The EU silicone import price was $5,349 per tonne in 2021, up 11% from the previous year. There were significant differences in average prices between major importing countries. The country with the highest price was France ($6,539 per ton), while Estonia ($678 per ton) was among the lowest. In 2021, the most notable growth rate in terms of prices was achieved by Austria (+61.0% per year), while the other leaders experienced more modest growth rates.
Top EU Silicone Exporters
Shipments from the three main exporters of silicones in primary forms, namely Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands, accounted for more than two-thirds of the total volume. France (35,000 tons) ranks second in terms of total exports with a share of 7.9%, followed by Spain (4.9%) and Italy (4.7%).
In terms of value, the top silicone supplier countries to the EU were Germany ($854 million), the Netherlands ($674 million) and Belgium ($647 million), with a combined share 79% of total exports. These countries were followed by France, Italy and Spain, which accounted for an additional 15%.
