Believe it in the cheddar – an 820-pound block of cheese just delivered to Mazzaro’s, and the Italian market says you can get a bite of it by Christmas.
The cheese itself is a black Auricchio provolone wax that has been aged for 24 months in Cremona, Italy. Considered one of the best styles of provolone in the world, Auricchio’s provolone is particularly sharp and is a rare treat for Saint-Pierre. The gigantic package looks more like a torpedo than an Italian delicacy, but once Mazzaro’s cuts the cheese, the contents of the projectile will become the star of your next charcuterie board.
The huge dairy delight was delivered by tractor-trailer last week and brought to the store on a forklift, as Mazzaro documented on his Facebook page. They said they plan to start cutting and selling the beautiful provolone “a week or two before Christmas”.
Mazzaro’s brings a huge block of cheese for Christmas
You can expect cheese to be a popular Christmas present in St. Pete this year, and Mazzaro’s is always a great place to grab a gift for anyone on your list. With freshly brewed coffee, handmade pasta, an assortment of cheeses, and a literal world of wine, spices, and freshly baked goodies, this is a must stop for locals and visitors alike. If nothing else, it’s worth it for the experience (and for the hot sandwiches).
Mazzaro plans to announce a sell date for the 820-pound chunk soon, so stay tuned – this cheese is likely to sell out quickly.
In case you missed some delicious news …
Finally, Tampa Bay’s most popular Italian market is open at St. Pete-Clearwater Airport (PIE). Mazzaro’s Italian Market is loved for its huge selection of Italian food, massive sandwiches, amazing desserts, and great customer service. Now those entering and leaving PIE can buy from Mazzaro.
Mazzaro’s Italian Market has opened at St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport for travelers departing in the post-security passenger area of Gates 7-11, according to an airport statement. The market offers a selection of Mazzaro’s favorite hot and cold sandwiches, flatbreads, locally roasted coffees, and an extensive wine, beer and cocktail menu.
