NEW ORLEANS (press release) – The Garden District Bookstore has released its August event listings.

10 AOT | RAMADAN RAMSEY: A NOVEL | LOUIS EDOUARD

The Garden District Book Shop is honored to host the nationwide release on August 10 of renowned local author Louis Edwards’ latest book, “Ramadan Ramsey: A Novel”. After twenty years of absence from the literary scene, Guggenheim Fellowship and Whiting Award novelist Edwards returns with a tender, heartbreaking and triumphant story that reveals the complexity of the modern family and of finding one’s home not in one. certain city or place, but in the people you call family.

“Ramadan Ramsey: A Novel” is the epic tale of a New Orleans boy whose very creation is so filled with tension it disrupts his destiny even before he is born. Stretching from the Deep South to the Middle East, Ramadan Ramsey connects several countries and cultures, interweaving two families who struggle to love and survive in the face of war, natural disasters and their equally tumultuous private mistakes and aspirations.

The event will begin at 6:00 p.m. with a welcome reception followed by a moderated discussion between author Louis Edwards and Garden Quarter Bookstore co-owner Christopher Tidmore. The discussion will be followed by a short reading, questions and answers and a book signing.

She needs a miracle and Jamar Dixon just might be. The oh-so-fine former footballer wants to get back into the NFL, and he wants Powell to coach him. 26 AOT | ANOTHER TYPE OF EDEN | JAMES LEE BURKE

The Garden District Bookstore is delighted to announce a virtual event on August 26 to celebrate the release of acclaimed author James Lee Burke, “Another Kind of Eden.” The final installment of James Lee Burke’s masterful Dutch family saga, “Another Kind of Eden”, is both fascinating and one of Burke’s most ambitious works to date.

“Another Kind of Eden” is a best-genre literary mashup that brings a new twist to the cult novel genre – a gritty, grim mystery written in the signature Burke style that includes elements of horror and the supernatural. Through Aaron and Jo Anne, Burke brings us a nostalgic novel that unearths the beauty and idealism of the 1960s to show the ugliness that lurks just below the surface. The result is a clever exploration of the battle between good and evil, of those who do what is right instead of what is easy.

The free event will take place virtually on Zoom and start at 6:00 p.m. CST. During the Zoom, Burke will share information about “Another Kind of Eden” and be in conversation with Colette Bancroft of the Tampa Bay Times. The discussion on the book will be followed by a lively question-and-answer session.

Those interested can register for the free event at Eventbrite. Zoom links will be sent to emails provided on the day of the event. For more information, please visit www.gardedistrictbookshop.com.
