New Delhi: The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) sent notices to five e-commerce entities, including Amazon, Flipkart and PaytmMall, as well as various vendors for offering pressure cookers that do not comply with BIS standards. The notices were issued on November 18 to Flipkart, Amazon, Snapdeal, Shopclues and PaytmMall, as well as sellers.

“CCPA has become aware of suo-moto against e-commerce entities that sell pressure cookers in violation of the Household Pressure Cookers (Quality Control) Order 2020 issued by the central government under Article 16 (1 ) of the 2016 BIS law on January 21, 2020, “the statement read.

The authority requested a response from the e-commerce entities within seven days of issuing the notice, failing which necessary action may be taken against them under the provisions of the Consumer Protection Act 2019. .

He also wrote to the DG (Director General), BIS to learn about the matter immediately and take the necessary action.

The Consumer Department has provided the list of 13 of these products available for sale on e-commerce platforms.

Three products are on Flipkart.com – Quba Regular 5 L Induction Pressure Cooker in Aluminum (Aluminum), PRISTINE Induction Pressure Cooker in 5 L Stainless Steel (Stainless Steel) and DIAMOND by FastColors Outer Lid 10 Liters Aluminum 10 L Pressure Cooker (Aluminum) .

Snapdeal.com sells two of these products: ABODE 5L Aluminum Outer Lid Pressure Cooker without Induction Base and Induction Pressure Cooker compatible with Bestech 5L mirror finish cooktops.

Three products are on Shopclues.com – Quba Aluminum Regular 5 liter pressure cooker with induction base (aluminum), PRISTINE pressure cooker with induction base in stainless steel, 5L and ethical pressure cooker TRI-NATURE 5 liters with induction base in stainless steel TriPly SAS.

Paytmmall.com offers three products for sale – PRISTINE 5.5L Outer Lid Pressure Cooker Induction Bottom (Silver, Stainless Steel, Pack of 1); Induction base for Quba 5 L inner lid pressure cooker (silver, aluminum, set of 1); and Ethical Cookware Combos Induction Bottom (stainless steel, set of 1).

In accordance with the BIS Ordinance, domestic pressure cookers are required to comply with Indian standard IS 2347: 2017 and carry the standard mark under a license from BIS with effect from August 1, 2020.

Pressure cookers that do not meet mandatory standards are likely to be considered “defective” under the law, the statement said.

The government also pointed out that Rule 4 (2) of the Consumer Protection (Electronic Commerce) Rules, 2020 specifies that no electronic commerce entity shall engage in unfair commercial practice, whether in the course of doing business on its own. platform or otherwise.
