Deputy PM urges China to facilitate imports of more goods from Việt Nam, ASEAN


VIETNAM, September 17 – HÀ NỘI — Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Phạm Bình Minh delivered a pre-recorded speech at the opening of the 19th ASEAN-China Expo (CAEXPO) and 19th China-ASEAN Business Investment Summit (CABIS ) in Nanning on Friday, capital of China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

He praised the significant achievements that the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and China have achieved over the years, especially the establishment of a comprehensive strategic partnership for peace, security , prosperity and sustainable development.

ASEAN and China continued to be each other’s largest trading partner, with bilateral trade hitting a new high of US$669 billion in 2021. China is the largest foreign direct investor in many countries. of ASEAN. Meanwhile, bilateral cooperation in disease control, poverty alleviation, culture and people-to-people exchanges have also been strengthened, benefiting the peoples of both sides, according to the deputy premier.

Minh pointed out that amid complicated and unexpected changes in the regional and global situation, with supply chains still suffering from the consequences of COVID-19 and rising fuel and raw material costs in many countries and regions, ASEAN countries and China should continue to strengthen cooperation in addressing challenges and accelerating sustainable post-pandemic recovery.

He stressed the need to take full advantage of the opportunities offered by the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) and the ASEAN-China Free Trade Agreement (ACFTA), thereby boosting bilateral trade in a balanced and sustainable manner.

The Deputy Prime Minister suggested that the Chinese government create favorable conditions for increased imports of high-quality goods and agricultural products from Việt Nam as well as other ASEAN countries via Việt Nam.

He also asked for China’s coordination to maintain stable supply and production chains as well as smooth customs clearance activities under all circumstances; diversify the modes of freight transport by road, rail, sea and air; promote partnerships in the areas of innovation, digital transformation, digital economy and e-commerce; and strengthening collaboration in the areas of green and sustainable development.

CAEXPO is one of the top 10 trade fairs in China, held every year since 2004. This year, Việt Nam continues to participate in the largest-scale event with an exhibition area of ​​over 2,000 m², as well as the exhibition of 80 companies to showcase Vietnamese products such as agricultural and aquatic products, processed foods, wooden furniture and handicrafts, consumer goods, as well as investment services, tourism and trade. —VNS
