A stalker who believes she is Craig David’s girlfriend has smiled as she arrives in court to challenge an order saying she can never see the singer again.
‘Obsessed’ Tanya Jeal, who believes she is the star’s girlfriend, smiled as she walked up the stairs on a single crutch to Bromley Magistrates’ Court in south-east London to appeal the harassment protection order imposed on him.
The novelist, 31, who has not been found guilty of harassment but has an interim prevention order barring her from seeing David for a year, wore a casual ensemble including a cream cardigan, navy chinos, socks and sandals as she walked with a crutch in her left hand.
During Jeal’s previous appearance at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court in January, it was understood she had become ‘obsessed and in love’ with the singer and had been stalking him since 2016, claiming she was his girlfriend.
David alleged that Jeal came to his house in November 2020, where she rang the intercom several times.
She is said to have been holding a photo she had taken with him five years prior.
In January, the court heard that Jeal had stayed at the same hotel as David.
She waited for him to arrive and left, as well as standing “still” in front of the crowd at a concert in Bedford, where she held the photo throughout, the court heard.
It was also alleged that while staying at the same hotel as David, Jeal used emergency exits to get to his room and then knocked on the door.
It was said that she then sent a photo of herself on Snapchat there, along with the message: “I know you love me.”
The court heard that Jeal allegedly posted a note under the door, which read, “I hope Budda handles lies like you do.
“Budda will take this from here, you’re an asshole, from Tanya, your fucking girlfriend.”
Jeal wants to challenge the order and the court heard she plans to call the top of the list as a witness in any proceedings.
So far, David has not attended any court hearings. The Metropolitan Police have obtained an Interim Harassment Protection Order (SPO) on behalf of the singer.
Michael Rhimes, representing the force, told the court: “Clearly she’s in love with him. Clearly she thinks he’s her boyfriend. He’s not.”
He added: “She made comments to try to incriminate her management team.
In January the hearing was a pre-trial review which will decide whether or not to impose a full harassment order, this has been moved to Bromley as it is closer to Jeal’s home. Today’s hearing concerns the management of the case of the hearing which will decide whether the temporary order should be allowed to expire or whether a permanent order should be imposed.
“She seems to think it’s a Britney Spears-type situation where she thinks her management is exploiting her.”
