RIO DE JANEIRO, June 4. / TASS /. The Department of Drugs and Biologics of the Brazilian Health Regulatory Agency (Anvisa) has no objections to imports of the Russian coronavirus vaccine Spuntik V, the director general of drugs and biologics said on Friday. ‘Anvisa, Gustavo Mendes Lima Santos.
“From our point of view, if the imports and use of the vaccine are allowed, we must ensure control of the conditions under which it is used,” he said at an Anvisa meeting on Sputnik V , broadcast live on YouTube.
According to the official, the use of Sputnik V in Brazil should coincide with a study on its effectiveness and compliance with the requirements of the World Health Organization.
Experts from Anvisa told the meeting that only vaccines produced in Russian facilities inspected by Anvisa should be allowed into the country. In addition, each batch of vaccine must have documents, issued by a Brazilian laboratory, to certify that it is safe and does not contain live adenovirus.
However, Anvisa experts have recommended limiting the use of Sputnik V for pregnant women, nursing mothers, and people with chronic illnesses.
In a letter to Anvisa sent in May, the governors of nine states in northeastern Brazil, which agreed to buy Sputnik V with the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), said they were ready to use the Russian vaccine and took personal responsibility for all consequences.
