In the series, he plays a genius novelist, Tahir Wazir, unable to write his next book. We chat with the actor to learn more about the series and his upcoming projects. Excerpts:
Can you tell us about your character and how you got involved in the project?
I got the show thanks to the casting director, who offered me the script. He asked me to read it to see what I think. The story was so interesting that I read the entire 450 pages. Then the director and producer got involved and I got the project. Also, the character written for me, Tahir Wazir, is quite interesting. I was very excited to be part of Bestseller.
What type of preparation did the role require of you?
We did some readings before filming began to get rid of any minor script glitches or glitches. All the actors got together and rehearsed the scenes. So, by the end of the table reads, we all knew exactly what we needed to do, to do justice to our roles.
When a gray character like this presents itself to you, how do you approach it?
The way I see it is how this is going to impact the story. Yes, my character has flaws and complexities, but the story revolves around those elements only. I believe that in the end it all comes down to where the character is going to lead the story. Having the chance to tell someone’s story excites me.
What was the experience of working with Mukul Abhyankar?
Fantastic! He is a brilliant technician and has an amazing mastery of the thriller genre. We are good friends now. I look forward to working with him on other projects.
How was the collaboration with Shruti Haasan and Mithun Chakraborty?
The work experience on the sets was harmonious. Both gave great performances.
Are you demanding about your roles?
You have to be selective. You cannot choose everything that happens to you. I have always prioritized quality over quantity and will continue to do so.
Of all the characters you’ve played, which was the most difficult?
It was my first web series, State of siege: 26/11. I played Colonel Kunal Sahota, a national hero and the commander of the NSG and the Black Tornado mission. You don’t want to falter or make mistakes when portraying a real-life hero.
You’ve been with this company for about two decades now. What do you think of the rise of OTT and digital spaces?
It’s a great time to be here. It brought together the global audience. The biggest benefit is that it made the content accessible to everyone.
You have been part of several Telugu movies, do you plan to come back here?
Definitively. I’m reading some scripts and you might see me in movies and web series soon.
And after? What kind of stories do you watch?
Everything that justifies the role I get and do it for the satisfaction of playing that role and not just for the pleasure of being busy.
Finally, what do you do to stay in shape?
Getting fit isn’t a diet, it should be your lifestyle. I have always been health conscious and still am.
